Having a good marriage can lead to a number of health benefits, and the stronger the commitment the greater the rewards.
Marriage is a witness to our value on this earth and to our actual existence. It may be the greatest gift one person can give another.
Every year, we see more couples choosing not to marry. Many choose to cohabitate. Many do not want even that level of commitment. The Atlantic, recently reported that these couples are not afraid of marriage per se, but instead are afraid they will be unable to stay married. In other words, what they fear is divorce; which is understandable considering the emotional and financial ramifications of dissolving a marriage.

Controversy arose earlier this year when Stanford University published a study which suggested that organic fruits and vegetables may not be as healthful as touted by the pro-organic community. Unfortunately, this received quite a bit of superficial publicity from the mainstream press. However, this is an extremely important topic, and it's worth taking a deeper look into the reasons why we need to go organic: for our families, our communities, and our global environment. Here are six BIG reasons to go organic:

Understanding the Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acid
You would almost have to be marooned on a tropical island to miss all the buzz about Omega-3 fatty acid these days. Almost every doctor is recommending it, every supplement company is selling it and all the while many health professionals still insist we can get plenty of Omega-3 in our diet by eating fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines. If you haven't really looked at what Omega-3 fatty acid is and what is can do, I would like to provide concise information on Omega-3 that you can “digest” in 3 minutes or less.

As a physiologist I continue to hear about that "devil" salt and how we must control it to prevent hypertension and all sorts of terrible diseases. However, salt is not always bad for you, In fact our bodies need salt in order for cells to communicate. It is actually possible for someone to be salt deficient! I came accross this article on Salt by Dr. Mercola and wanted to share it here. He does a great job of helping us understand different types of salt and how certain salts can be very beneficial to our bodies. Dr. Mercola is the founder of the natural health web site, Mercola.com. I hope you find his article interesting and informative!

I was looking through the swim suit section of a well-known lingerie/clothing catalogue the other day with a photographer friend of mine. As a fitness professional I have to say that I do look at the bodies of the models with both admiration and curiosity "how much of this is photoshopped, airbrushed, flaw-corrected?" We notice one model in particular with really impressive abdominal tone (not just skinny). This was when my friend informed me that with photo editing one could easily take the abdominals of one person and put them on another, basically "assembling" a perfect body.

Often when we discuss the aging, we focus on changes we might observe in Coordination, Motor Control and Psychomotor Skills with advanced age. Perhaps we simply generalize about aging and make the assumption that these changes are inevitable.

I came across an article by Dr. Mercola that discusses sugar, types of sugar and how our affair with it is harming our personal health, as well as that of our families and communities.
I found it very well written and informative. I have always believed that education is the foundation for change. Hopefully the information Dr. Mercola shares will provide you will the basis to begin to make different (better) food choices.

Correction:
In my Blog from Japan I referenced a book by Chester Leibs as "Can Mamachari's Save Tokyo". The current working title is: Can Mamachari's Save the Earth, published by Yoshensha. Unfortunately the book is planned to be published only in Japanese. Hopefully we will see an English version very soon - right Chester?

The Japanese have traditionally been a very fit, hard-wroking and prosperous people. In the few times I have been here, I feel saddened by the amount of US tobacco that is consumed in Japan, as well as the increasin prevalence of white, processed sugars and food chemicals.
