It’s been eight years since I first blogged on the topic of fascia.
I found it absolutely fascinating. Since then, researchers around the world have been studying fascia and what they are learning, I believe, will make a giant impact in the health and wellness industry.

The Circadian Rhythm Method that is!
If you’ve been following diet trends over the past few years, you’ve probably heard about all the different types of “Fasting Diets”. Nowadays, there are dozens – everything from alternate day fasting, to two-day-per-week fasting, to fasting 20 hours per day (Yep - every day!)
These diets are based on quite a bit of research that has revealed that we tend to be healthier when we restrict eating in ways that are compatible with our circadian rhythms.

I love this time of year! I love the long days and all the opportunities we have to enjoy nature and outdoor play-time. However, these long summer days also bring heat – blistering, sweltering, scorching heat. As with any extremes in temperature, while we do want to play outdoors, we also need to make sure we play it safe.

Sun – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
I love summer! I love the longer days, the beautiful colors and the relaxed attitudes. In my heart, I’ll always be a kid feeling like I’m free -out of school for the summer!
With the long days of summer, however, come long days of sunshine. For many that can mean hours in the sun swimming, playing, gardening or working.

The “W” in OWN
As we talked about during our first look at OWN, water makes up as much as 70% of our bodies. Here is an interesting fact; the earth is also about 70% water. Perhaps this is nature revealing to us how interconnected we are. It is easy to see that the oceans could not flourish if they were filled with coffee, diet soda, fruit juices or sports drinks.

The “O” in OWN.
Unfortunately, our busy and often stress-filled lives upset the vital rhythm of our breath. Being mindfully aware of our need to breathe fully, frequently throughout the day and certainly during periods of stress or anxiety, can soothe our souls and reduce the negative consequences of stress.

A recent Medscape article caught my eye and I thought you might be interested in what it had to say. It was an article on dementia.
I’ll bet that got your attention. It did mine – and for good reason.
Before I tell you about the interesting news from Medscape, let me share with you some facts on dementia from Alz.org and WHO.
- Dementia is a syndrome caused by a variety of brain illnesses that is generally chronic and progressive.
- Alzheimer’s is one form of dementia that accounts for about 70% of people diagnosed with dementia (Krista Hills, Dementia).
- Dementia is NOT a normal part of aging.

... Burn more calories and improve your health quickly and easily? Here’s a NEAT idea...
You’ve probably heard about studies that have reported that even people who exercise regularly are at a higher risk for heart disease simply because their jobs or lifestyle generally causes them to sit most of the day.

Take a deep breath. Close your eyes and think about your body. What comes to mind?
Do you feel the mechanical miracle of the heart and lungs pumping away, continually supplying your cells with oxygen and nourishment? Do you see the spark of the billions of electrical impulses that allow for thoughts, emotions and movement? Can you sense the fluidity of chemical processes that produce energy and metabolism?

It’s the end of January. Did you make a resolution to lose weight? Statistics tell us that about 80% of resolutions fail by February.
How’s it going?
It’s been reported that as much as two-thirds of dieters regain the weight they lost - plus some - and that dieters are more likely to suffer from depression and poor self-esteem.
There are many reasons diets fail.

Yikes! Here we are. The holiday season has crept up on us again. If you’re feeling as though you’re being chased by something just short of sinister, the feeling is well-founded. While the holidays are intended to be a time of celebration, gratitude, kindness and connection, often they also trigger stress, over indulgence, guilt and anxiety.
This is NOT the time to start a diet, make a resolution or begin a drastic health regimen. It IS a time to hunker down and hold on to our sanity, our composure, and our good judgment. We can think about a new routine in the new year.

Do you remember “The Count” from Sesame Street? While he’s not my favorite Sesame Street personality, sometimes throughout the day I remind myself of The Count.
You see, I’m a chronic calorie counter. Part of that stems from the years of obsessive-compulsive tendencies that accompany an eating disorder. But a good bit of it comes from being post-menopausal and trying to maintain a healthy weight.
Should you be a calorie counter?
