Home for the Holidays

happy holidays on woodgrainHello Friends. As I type this, we are up to our bellies in the holiday season. (pun totally intended!)

Yep. This time of year can produce a mishmash of feelings that leaves us stranded in a tumultuous sea of stress, swarming with ravenous, distorted emotions that make navigating the holidays healthfully a real act of courage; requiring insight, balance, and incredible patience.

I’d ask you to take just a few seconds – right now – and ask your heart and body how it’s going for you. Are you feeling calm? Rested? Sane? At ease?

Gratitude – Not Just for November Anymore!

little girl hot cocoaYep – It’s November. The one month out of 12 that we’ve set aside for gratitude. And because of that, I’m certain your inbox is full of everything from blogs like mine to holiday sales that invoke the spirit of being thankful.

Balancing on the Wobbly Stool of Wellness

What is ‘Wellness’ anyway?

zen garden peace stoneAs you know in my book From Overwhelmed to Inspired, I use the definition of wellness I’ve come to love,

“Wellness, it’s the best in each of us, a natural mix of elements that makes us unique. Wellness is a conscious commitment to growth and improvement in all areas. Only then does the larger picture emerge.” ~ Anonymous

What’s in your DNA?

science lab chemical bottlesThose of you who know me can attest to the fact that through the years, I’ve really striven to learn the most up-to-date information on wellness, healthy aging, and well-being and incorporate what I’ve learned into my daily life as well as to share what I’ve learned with others.

And yet, over time, I’ve been plagued with increasingly ubiquitous ‘discomfort’ (a.k.a. pain)

All of my physicals come back with beautifully glowing lab results that indicate perfect health – and yet – I’m hurting. And for all the perfectly-perfect lifestyle and diet choices I make, I don’t necessarily feel robust.

At the suggestion of my chiropractor, I went to see Kimberly Feagans, B.A., CWK, CKP, who specializes in Wholistic Methylation and Wholistic Kinesiology. What I learned about myself, and by extension, my family was truly enlightening. But beyond that, it gave me hope that I could resolve many, if not all, of my issues.

Live Long and Prosper (notes on ‘how to’)

okinawa longevityMaybe it’s because I turned 60 last year. Maybe it’s because my mom died that year too, at age 91. Or maybe it’s just the business I’m in. But lately, I’ve found myself freakishly obsessed with longevity. Not just longevity.  I recognize that once born, we all have the same fate. We will die at some point.

My philosophy, and the basis for what and how I teach, is that I want to be healthy when I die. And I want that for you too; a life of vitality, well-being and inner peace, to the very end.

Water Water Everywhere – but how much should you drink?

swan bottoms upHot days of summer are right around the corner and consuming plenty of water will be extra important for both overall health and safety.

Because water is a critical factor in our body’s overall health, I devoted an entire chapter to it in my book, From Overwhelmed to Inspired.

Below are a few excerpts from that chapter that I hope will motivate you drink plenty of water (or non-sugary, non-carbonated, non-caffeinated beverages) to stay healthy this summer and all year long.
